Proven Tips to Manage Stress
Proven Tips to Manage Stress

Hey, lovely! Listen up, because this is important. Stress management isn’t just some “nice-to-have” luxury. It’s a must-have for your physical and mental well-being! When you’re stressed, your body goes into “fight or flight” mode, which can cause major health problems down the line. Think weakened immune system, anxiety, depression, and burnout. Yikes! But here’s the good news: there are proven tips to manage stress you can use right now.

Here’s my 7 proven stress-busting techniques:

1) Plan ahead

Take care of little things ahead of time so you’re not rushing at the last minute or panicking when you run into an emergency. Try getting up or leaving the house 15 minutes earlier; preparing your outfit, making lunch, charging your phone the night before; making sure your gas tank is full; etc.

2) Keep your workspace organized

Clear out the clutter and create a system so you will know (and remember) where everything is. Organize files, emails, books, notes, etc. in categories so they’re all in one place and you can easily find them.

3) Take breaks

Be sure to take your lunch breaks, walk away from the desk for 15 minutes every hour and focus on something you enjoy.

4) Let go of the small worries

Relax. Dishes can wait till the next morning. No, you don’t need to shower tonight (especially if you don’t plan on seeing anyone tomorrow). And the world isn’t going to implode if you don’t do chores this weekend. If you need time to yourself, take it.

5) Exercise

I know, I know, I know. When we’re stressed, the last thing we want to do is to exercise. But exercising and other physical activities produces endorphins –chemicals in the brain that are natural painkillers—which allows your body to feel better, clears your mind from worries, and boosts your mood.

6) Breathe deeply

When we’re stressed, we tend to breathe in short, shallow breaths. Relax your body, and take 10 slow, deep belly breaths. Make sure your belly is rising and not just your chest. Hold for 3 seconds and slowly exhale through your mouth. Repeat.

7) Talk it out

Sometimes it helps when we can vent and confide in a trusted friend or family member. It helps clear our minds so we can be open to new possibilities and what actions to take towards the next step. Want professional support? Book a free 20 minute consultation with yours truly!
